iTunes 9 does not address this problem, which has been in existence since at least version 8 for people with large libraries (I have about 80,000 items).
Whenever I play a song, 10 seconds later iTunes will freeze up for about
20 seconds, taking up 99% of CPU power (happens for mp3 files only, not m4a). The freeze will also happen if I create a playlist, move a song within a playlist, edit track title or other metadata etc.
